An obvious start

I haven’t been awake to take shots at sunrise since I first got into photography about 4 years ago. Considering how much I love sunset/dusk/twilight I figured I might as well start enjoying the early morning version as well. I took my Zeiss Ikon with me and managed to get a few film shots, but the camera’s batteries soon got too cold and thus I switched to digital. All shots posted below were taken with the 5D Mk II.

Your first shot is excellent, I've looked at it for a while now and I think it would help if the exposure was tuned down just enough to be able to distinguish the border of the shot. (tough sometimes to display on a white bg) I think that hot spot of the image takes away from what my eye wants to look at, the beautiful light hitting the wheat. My first impressions of the second shot was hmm ok another telephone pole shot but after looking at it for a bit, you really have a lot of interesting lines going on here and I think you couldn't of nailed the comp any better, now it's on my desktop background, the more I look the more I like it! I want to see it big! (not on here of course). The one thing I like about the set, It distinctly has your personal style Rob. And that reflects that you are a serious professional photographer. Great work my friend, I can't wait to see what's next! Drew

Hey Drew, thanks for the thoughtful critique. I think you're definitely right about the sky in the first one. I went back to the image and tried to bring it back in lightroom, but it was just too bright (since I shoot everything in RAW I could have brought it back - but it just didn't look right). It doesn't look as bad viewed on black, and I would love to see what it looks like printed. I wasn't as excited to wake up early and head out into the cold tomorrow but I'm excited to try out a few new things after your comment. Cheers.
