What's missing?

In January and February we’ll be spending a month in Peru. I’m going to be challenging myself to take a lot more photos of people, and most definitely less empty chairs.

Zeiss Ikon, Planar 50/2 f/5.6, 1/1000 Fuji Provia 100 pushed to 400.

I like this, the photo of course but more the challenge. It's really something I feel like I struggle with as well. So, I challenge you to a friendly duel /throws down glove. 10 portraits, 10 different random people. See here. http://www.zarias.com/?p=465 Let me know the day your going to do it, I'll go out on my own the same day and attempt this (Already feeling nervous here.) I also challenge you and Lauren to go in separate directions capturing your own photographs of people you had to approach solo.

Yikes! A throw down! I checked out Zack Arias' street portraits, whose work I really admire. The thing is that I have a different idea in mind for people street photography. Check out a few of the shots Hugh Forte posted on his blog here: http://hughforte.com/blog/?p=918. Also check out this vimeo clip: http://vimeo.com/6504591 I think that bravery is certainly required to ask someone if you can take their photograph, but there is a whole other level of bravery required to take a persons photograph without asking them first. Both are valuable approaches. To be quite honest I'm a bit skeptical about the prospects of either type of street photography in Edmonton. I'm sure it's out there its probably just not as abundant as some places (like Peru!). That being said, what did you have in mind, and where?
